Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Salary: The salary for this post will be on the support scales at point X28 (£23,050)

Pension: The School provides a workplace pension, this is a money purchase scheme, where members contribute a minimum of 3% of eligible salary and the School 5%.

Annual leave: 25 days paid holiday (increasing annually to 30 days after 5 years’ service) + public holidays and 3 days efficiency closure at Christmas

Key function:

  • The Maintenance Operative will work as part of the Estates team to provide all aspects of general maintenance of Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation as necessary.

Specific Duties:

The duties and responsibilities of the post holder will include the following areas:

  • Carry out planned preventative building maintenance in line with set programmes
  • Carry out a variety of planned and reactive building maintenance tasks, which will be varied in nature and will include general plumbing, joinery, tiling, painting, paving, gardening and various grounds duties
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications assisting where needed in other trades
  • Assist with moving of furniture, set up and events
  • Perform a wide range of the work of other craftspeople as necessary
  • Have an understanding and comply with all relevant Health, Safety, Legislative and Standard documentation
  • Attend training events as and when required
  • Some out of normal hours working is necessary for which a time In lieu scheme is used
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the Estates Maintenance Manager and the needs of the foundation
