Mr Bratton discussed the need for precise calculations in engineering, and the importance of allowing for the variability of the human instrument, with examples from his work with Network Rail

He covered the measure of precision of engineering and mathematics, why models have limitations, and how this uncertainty is dealt with, as well as an insight into railway careers
