Last night, we welcomed over 40 existing and prospective families to the formal opening of Lodge House which is situated in the footprint of one of our existing historic buildings.
Earlier this month, we announced that Durham School is investing further in girls’ education with the creation of a new Day House following a rapid expansion in the number of girls enrolling in the senior school.
At last night's launch, guests were greeted by Kieran McLaughlin, Headmaster of Durham School and Principal of the Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation, who shared his excitement: “I was delighted to meet with prospective and existing families last night to discuss our plans for Lodge House. This expansion represents an important and meaningful moment, not just for girls at Durham School, but for the whole Foundation community.”
The new House will be ready for September 2024 and will combine centuries of heritage with a modern pastoral environment for girls aged 11- 18. All involved in the development of Lodge House are thrilled to see it come to life and share it with Foundation’s community. The modern and homely amenities and dedicated staff ensures this new House will provide a space where young women can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally for years to come.
Beth Spence, the inaugural Senior Housemistress of Lodge House, shared an insight into the name of the new House and said: “The House has been named after Miss Millicent Lodge, Durham School’s first female teacher. Miss Lodge inspired and educated thousands of young people. By giving the new girls’ House her name, we will inspire another generation of Dunelmians”
If you missed our launch event, there’s still time to sign up to our Open Morning on Saturday 16th March. Alternatively, you can request a private tour by emailing [email protected].
