Durham School Physics pupils have once again achieved success in the British Physics Olympiad this year, however one pupil has gone a step even further. Year 13 pupil Dimitrije was placed in the top 100 in the country receiving a 'Top Gold' certificate and the first to be achieved in the Durham School Physics department.
Mr Andrew Smith, Head of Physics at Durham School, was delighted with the results and singled out Dimitrije for particular praise.
Mr Smith said:
To be placed amongst the top 100 Physics pupils in the whole of the UK is a phenomenal effort. The British Physics Olympiad questions are above and beyond the requirements of A level and require very high levels of mathematical understanding. We are all very proud of Dimitrije and his achievement and I know that he is thrilled with the outcome.
The Physics department at Durham School run regular stretch and challenge workshops which aim to develop a deeper understanding for the pupils, in addition to preparing them for Oxbridge entrance.
