Senior Academics

Last Thursday was International Women and Girls in Science Day and to celebrate it, some of our pupils and staff attended an online panel event giving by Durham University.

This opportunity allowed our pupils to hear first-hand from women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) professions about how they came to choose their career and what advice they would give to young girls hoping to follow the same path.

Polina, one of our Year 10 pupils joined the online event as she has a passion for science, particularly Chemistry and Biology.

I really enjoyed listening to each panellist talk about why they decided to do science and how they got into the careers that they have. The online event was a very interesting and engaging. I learned a lot about different science courses at Durham University and what careers you can do after you graduate.

Whilst Polina is not completely sure what she will do in the future, she likes the idea of pursuing a career in Biochemistry or Microbiology.

Polina said:

At Durham School, the best thing about my science lessons are the teachers. The way they explain, engage and show us how things work make the science lessons so fascinating.
We also do a lot of practical work which helps us understand the subject even better.

Thank you to Durham University and the panellists for a brilliant event!
