Umar, one of our Year 11 pupils, attended the Zoological Discoveries lecture hosted by Newcastle University. Let’s see what he had to say…
Talking about the lecture, Umar said:
The lecture was titled Zoological Discoveries and it looked at different studies in Zoology, such as how animals are classified and how their different lifestyle choices affect their lives. The lecture was presented by two Newcastle University graduates with degrees in Zoology.
The most interesting thing about the lecture was definitely the interactive quiz and questions throughout the lecture, as the lecture was based around them and sparked many questions in peoples mind, even Mrs Moore’s!
Having access to lectures given by Newcastle University is brilliant for all pupils. Even before the pandemic, there were workshops that Durham School were invited to, some of these included private lectures specifically organised for us. I feel they are a great way to introduce many students to different career paths. At Durham School the best thing about the science lessons is the practical work that we do across all three sciences. Not only are they fun but the practical sessions are always integrated well with a combination of notes and teaching to solidify the topic.
When I leave school in a few years, I hope to study Medicine at university and become a doctor, which has been a dream that I have had from a young age. It is even more possible now at Durham School with specific teachers that can help in your route to university, wherever you want to go, and what course you would like to do.
