Year 13 pupil Ross Mushens has been accepted onto the Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) flying start programme at Newcastle University beginning in September.
The accountancy degree is a collaboration with Newcastle University. It combines academic study and integrated paid professional work placements at PWC. By the end of the 4-year course, students will have completed 80% of the ICAEW exams.
Ross said:
I am interested in following a career in business and believe this degree will provide me with great insight and experience. In addition, I will be working towards an internationally recognised professional qualification. I am excited to be a part of the programme because PWC is a truly global business services company which will provide excellent training and experience, as well as exciting career opportunities.
When asked what inspired him to apply to the programme, Ross said:
PWC and Newcastle University business school both have excellent reputations. PWC’s involvement provides undergraduates with an opportunity to secure a permanent role in their business, take part in interesting projects and the possibility of worldwide travel.
I am most looking forward to meeting new people and living independently at university. I am keen to experience life as a student and to gain valuable experience in the world of work. Newcastle University Boat Club is very successful, and I hope to be part of their team. There are so many things I will miss about Durham School. In particular the school community that have made my years here so enjoyable. However, on leaving school I become an Old Dunelmian which means I will most certainly be back!
